Lucero Bakery, a staple of the Bell Gardens/Commerce neighborhoods keeps me returning even after I've moved to OC. I recently dropped by at 6:30 am on a Friday and I was the only patron in the house. Maybe an off day or perhaps due to the increase in costs? The deals from the past are long gone. A churro will set you back $1.50 and in order to get price break, you'll need to buy 50 @ $1.25 a stick. Still the same churro, perfectly textured on the outside with a moist center. Apart from churros, their other offerings include sweet breads, flans, cakes, and bolillos. Try them out!

Oh boy are you in for a treat when you walk into this place! Variety of cake options and single slices are sold, great opportunity to taste the type of cake before committing to a full cake. Tres leches de nuez and fresa are delicious! Couldn't resist the choco flan and was not disappointed. I called prior to ordering and was assured I can walk in the morning and get a dull cake. Staff is attentive, friendly and make genuine connections with their regulars. The place itself reminds me a bodega with friendly regulars giving a helping hand and providing suggestions. The man in front of me even offered to let me go ahead, but I knew I was going to get a few things and respectfully declined. It's quiet in the early morning but I can see it being really busy after 8 am.

Nice and fresh churros! The churros aren't thin like other places. They were nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The bakery made it fresh once you order it. I haven't tried the churros with fillings, but you definitely can't go wrong with the original. Service is usually quick but unfortunately there was a huge order ahead of me so it took awhile to get serviced. The bakery has a ton of items to choose from! I would recommend to order on the phone ahead of time so your order is ready when you get there! I've heard the lines can get pretty long! There's parking in the back & on the street!
